Hoppy Friday and a happy holiday weekend to you!
If you want to take your Easter feast one step further this weekend, we created this recipe with you in mind! How about a homemade ham glaze? Not just for ham, you can add this perfectly imperfect sauce to any of your proteins or drizzle over roasted veggies, mix into some mayo for a zippy condiment on leftover sandwiches and freeze half for future ham events, ha!
Making a homemade ham glaze is really simple and very flavorful! The best part about making your own, is you know exactly what the ingredients are! I used this week's organic pineapple and oranges to create the base, it's as easy as blending them together, mixing in a few other ingredients and letting it slow simmer on the stove. You can add whole cloves, garlic and allspice if you'd like, or keep it as simple as the recipe below. Let's dig in.
Easter Ham Glaze
Time: 45 minutes
1 Perfectly Imperfect organic pineapple
3-4 Perfectly Imperfect organic oranges
1 T Perfectly Imperfect orange zest
1/4 cup whole grain mustard
1 tsp red chili flake
1 T grated ginger
1/3 cup brown sugar
1. Wash and dry oranges, zest one and peel the rest. Cut into smaller pieces and add to a blender.
2. Trim pineapple by cutting off both top & bottom and slicing rind off all of the sides. Cut planks off of the center core and cut into smaller pieces, also adding to the blender.
3. Blend oranges & pineapple until fully broken down. If you like your glaze more "crushed pineapple" texture, feel free to pulse until the mixture is the texture you'd like.
4. Pour pureed fruit mix into a large sauce pot and add the remaining ingredients, stirring to combine. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and then reduce heat to low, cooking for 35-40 minutes, until liquid has thickened and reduced.
5. Allow glaze to cool to room temp, then pour into a fridge safe container. Store in the fridge for up to 10 days, freezing any remaining glaze for future use! Apply liberally to your Easter ham or turkey to enhance the flavors and add a touch of sweetness while cooking! Enjoy!
